The principle is demanding: the ball that travels the greatest distance in a straight line from the starting point is declared the winner. This requires a rigorous mastery of air navigation and a thorough knowledge of weather conditions. Participants can stay in the air for several days, sometimes in extreme conditions, in order to optimize their journey.   <\/p><p>Since its creation, the Cup has attracted many pioneers of aeronautics and remains a symbol of excellence in free flight. Despite suspensions due to world wars or economic crises, the event continues to attract international teams. <\/p><p>Competition is as much a human challenge as it is a technological one. Crews must demonstrate composure, discipline and innovation to overcome the challenges of the discipline. The reduced living space on board (1.5 m\u00b2 for 3 to 4 days), the alternation of piloting, sleep and food management without autopilot, at altitudes of around 3000 to 4000 meters, are among the major challenges.  <\/p><p>Even today, the Cup is a major event in sports aeronautics, bringing together the best balloonists every year in an atmosphere of competition, camaraderie and passion.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Metz?<\/h3><p>Following the French victory in 2023, France is organising the race in 2025, choosing Metz, on the former military base of Frescaty, as the take-off site.<\/p><p>The gas used will be green hydrogen, made from renewable energy, reducing the environmental impact of the race.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Established in 1906 by James Gordon Bennett Jr., the Gordon Bennett Cup is one of the oldest and most renowned [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":3836,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[243],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3851","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-gordon-bennett-en"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
