The minimum financial objective that the BBC has set itself to finance a new envelope is €15,000. But we want to exceed this goal and raise more than €100,000 to acquire
2 tricolor balls.
Since its creation on 21 October 1979, at the instigation of the then president of the Royal Belgian Aeroclub, Aviator Lieutenant General Baron Mike Donnet, the Belgian Balloon Club has launched six tricolour balloons, christened and sponsored by members of the Royal Family.
Today, the Belgian Ballon Club is facing a new challenge: hot air balloons are not eternal and must be replaced. The first five French balls have reached the end of their life. Their replacement is urgent. It is a question of putting two of them under construction this winter.
To do this, the BBC is using crowdfunding, which is a first in the small world of Belgian ballooning.
However, this project would not reflect the spirit of the BBC if it had no social significance. Already in 1981, Jacques Van Ginderdeuren, at the time President of the BBC, set up a day in Tubize allowing some children and adults to make their dreams come true; it was a great success and this day brought together some twenty hot air balloons from all over Europe. We want to take advantage of this project to establish partnerships with citizen associations such as « Make-A-Wish Belgium South ».
